How to change careers without starting over

A career transition does not erase your experience. The work is learning how to translate it.

Many experienced professionals approach a career change as if they must become beginners again. Usually, they do not.

The better question is not whether your experience transfers. It is which parts transfer, what evidence supports them, and which gaps are genuinely important.

Start by identifying the problems you repeatedly solve, the decisions people trust you to make, and the outcomes you have produced. Then compare this evidence with the needs of your target role.

A strong transition is not a reinvention story. It is a coherent story of accumulated capability moving toward a better problem.
